When I moved across the world to Hà Nội, the most indulgent thing in the suitcase was a half-formed notion that I might one day write for a living. I didn't expect to find it again here. But I did.
I started as a guest writer for Việt Nam News during the 2022 World Cup and never quite left. These days I write Reeves All About It, the paper's column on news, trends and the 'expat' experience, alongside restaurant reviews that have taken me from Michelin-starred tasting menus to plastic stools and, on occasion, Tbilisi. I also write about bars and the people behind them for Drinks International, and pop up in VnExpress now and again.
Food and drink are uniting forces, cultural cornerstones which I try to capture in words and film. I'm less interested in the plate than in who's cooking it, why they're here and what it says about the city we share. Northern English by birth, Hanoian by choice, and usually on the lookout for lunch.
